One of Australia’s most popular and poignant events returns in 2009 with screenings for secondary school students. The Message Sticks Indigenous Film Festival is a powerful showcase of the latest Australian and International Indigenous films by established and emerging directors.
Curated by award-winning filmmakers, Rachel Perkins and Darren Dale, screenings of documentaries, shorts and features will provide a rare insight into the galvanising issues for this group of indigenous. At a turning point in our nation’s history, contemporary indigenous life is addressed, offering a window into a multifaceted indigenous culture in a format that is accessible and entertaining.
A Q&A after each session gives students a rare opportunity to meet the filmmakers, actors and curators of the Festival. Full program details will be available from March 2009.

Extension Option: Museum of Sydney
Compliment the Message Sticks Indigenous Film Festival experience with a visit to the Museum of Sydney. As students view artworks by Aboriginal artists and explore Cadigal Place, the museum’s Aboriginal gallery, they will consider how the stories of Aboriginal people are told and experienced in the context of a social history museum.
