Hailed by the London press as “one of the most densely woven, intelligent and moving pieces of theatre of the past 20 years”, A Disappearing Number won the 2008 Olivier Award for Best New Play, the Evening Standard Theatre Award for Best Play, and the 2007 Critics' Circle Theatre Award for Best New Play.
This visually striking production will be staged at the Sydney Theatre in Walsh Bay. This purpose-built venue was designed for drama and dance, and its state-of-the-art technology, crystal clear acoustics and intimate surrounds will provide the perfect backdrop for this world renowned theatre company.

Starting with one of the most mysterious and romantic collaborations of all time, A Disappearing Number is a story of connections between ideas, cultures and moments in time.
In London a man attempts to unravel the secrets of his lover. In Bangalore a woman collapses on a train. In Cambridge 1914, the mathematician GH Hardy seeks to comprehend the ideas of the Indian prodigy Srinivasa Ramanujan.
Threaded through these stories are questions about mathematics and beauty, the future and the past, about imagination and love.
Crossing three continents and several histories, A Disappearing Number is a provocative look at our relentless compulsion to understand.

Complicite first appeared in Australia in 1993 when their production The Street of Crocodiles was the hit of the Sydney Festival. The Company was last seen in Australia over 12 years ago when Sydney Theatre Company presented The Three Lives of Lucie Cabrol.
Presented in association with The British Council
