Season Overview

The Sydney Philharmonia Choir welcomes you to it’s 2008 season. This year’s season is building to be our most exciting and innovative yet.

Our first performance, Easter a la Françaisé, will inspire the emotions and evoke the spirit as we traverse the French interpretations of Easter by Poulenc, Duruflé, Messaien, Fauré and a world premiere from Australian composer Nicholas Vines.

We then move to Handel’s Hits, which optimises the genius that Bach described as ‘the only person I would wish to see before I die, and the only person I would wish to be’.

June sees the ever-popular weekend of Chorus Oz for 2008 arrive. You too can sing with a choir of up to 1500 singers, performing Orff’s astonishingly moving Carmina Burana. But hurry as we are filling up the limited places at a rapid rate!

Ode to Joy will be, as ever, extraordinary. Beethoven will capture your heart with this choral masterpiece as he has captured the optimism of the world in this work.

We will end the year’s performances at the Sydney Opera House with two of the most beautiful and evocative choral programs of all time.

In November, Mozart’s Requiem featuring Henderson’s Requiem, Barber’s Agnus Dei and for the first time in this programme, Schoenberg’s Friede auf Erde.

Lastly but my no means least, we have Handel’s Messiah. In addition on Sunday the 7th December, a beautifully presented Christmas celebration of carols will be added to a highlights from Messiah programme.
